Jetski Rentals Safety

GET FAMILIAR

Before you get on your Jet Ski rental in St. Thomas, please note the following:

CHECK OUT THE CONTROLS.
You'll typically find the throttle (usually a trigger or lever), the steering handle, and a safety lanyard.

SAFETY GEAR:
Always ask for a life jacket and consider other safety gear like goggles and a long sleeve rash guard. Fashion lovers, donโ€™t worry, our lifejackets are stylish and very comfortable.

SAFETY LANYARD:
Attach the safety lanyard to your wrist or life jacket, ensure the area is clear and the craft is stable, then start the engine.

THROTTLE CONTROL:
With our jet ski models, you need some throttle to maintain steering control. If you fully release the throttle, the craft loses most of its ability to turn. Slowing down is mainly done by reducing throttle, and you can also use the reverse/brake lever for additional stopping control.

STEERING / TURNING:
Jet skis steer by shifting your weight and turning the handlebars. Lean into turns for better control.

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE:
Maintain a safe distance from other watercraft and obstacles. A good rule of thumb is to stay at least 100 feet away from anything.

PRACTICE STOPPING:
To stop, release the throttle and steer gently to the side. The jet ski will slow down naturally, but be aware of your surroundings. You can also use the reverse/brake lever for additional stopping control.

WATCH YOUR WAKE:
Be mindful of your wake, especially near other boats and people. It can create waves that may affect others.

KNOW THE RULES:
Familiarize yourself with local boating laws and regulations. Some areas have speed limits and designated zones.

STAY ALERT.
It's easy to get caught up in the moment of fun once you get going, but other boats, skiers, divers, or swimmers could be in your general area.

LANYARDS:
Use the watercraft's safety precautions. We're referring to the lanyard that is placed around the wrist, attaching you to the handlebars of the watercraft. If you accidentally go overboard (very unlikely) the string (lanyard), which is attached to your wrist, will be pulled out of the handlebar, switching off the engine. We at JetSkiVi.com have taken our jet skis out for test rides and did some extreme maneuvers but never came close to falling off our jet skis.

DON'T DRINK AND RIDE:
Wanting to go for a cruise after a few drinks may feel like a cool idea, but itโ€™s NOT! A few drinks may affect your reaction response time, which is what you need most of all when you ride a jet ski.

COURTESY:
Basic rules of the sea includes being courteous to other vessels and always allow bigger vessels the passage before you.

PRACTICE:
Remember, practice makes perfect, so take your time to get comfortable on the water! Enjoy the ride!
